What’s on the surface? A shell-shocked soldier, badly wounded, weak, tired and hungry. He is lower class by birth, former factory worker, a simple guy.

What lies beneath? Was a spy for Franco’s army, preparing a treason or sabotage. So he is actually Catholic and pretends to be an atheist communist.
